Successful PhD Defense by Adél Németh

On Monday, May 2nd, Adél Németh successfully defended her PhD Thesis entitled “Market power versus efficiency defense in the European Commission’s merger policy: evidence on airline mergers”.

Her dissertation committee was comprised of Prof. Hans-Martin Niemeier (Hochschule Bremen) and Jacobs University Professors Prof. Gert Brunekreeft and Prof. Julia Bendul.

In her PhD-Thesis Dr. Németh investigated the circumstances and consequences of decisions on mergers in the airline industry made by European antitrust authorities on airline mergers. She argues that the decisions took into consideration market power, yet failed to consider aspects of market efficiency.

The thesis is available online through the Jacobs University Library.
